Kris Sexton, Esq.
Kris earned her law degree from Barry University School of Law, specializing in Children and Families and Trial Advocacy, and is licensed in Florida and Alabama. She focuses on family law, juvenile law, DHR/CPS issues, and Mediation. As a Registered Mediator, she has mediated over 100 Family Law matters in North Alabama. She’s active in the National Children’s Advocacy Center and is a trained Court Appointed Juvenile Advocate and licensed Guardian ad Litem.
Coby Boswell, Esq.
Coby is a founding partner for NXTStep Family Law, P.C. and a Birmingham School of Law graduate. Coby handles adoptions, custody, support, and much more in North Alabama region. He also chairs the Young Lawyer’s division of the American Bar Association, serves as Guardian ad Litem, and is a Mid-South Rising Star by Super Lawyers since 2017. Named Best Attorney by Best of Huntsville in 2021, he also teaches Domestic Relations at Birmingham School of Law.
Nora Hickman, Esq.
Nora, a Birmingham School of Law graduate in 2012, previously earned a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Alabama and a Bachelor’s from the University of Montevallo. With experience from the Peace Corps, she specializes in family law, including divorce, custody, and juvenile law, and has been a registered Guardian ad Litem since 2013. Described as “no-nonsense,” “extremely intelligent,” and “caring and professional” by clients, she’s also active in local theatre.
Danielle Cassells, Esq.
Danielle is a graduate of the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law. While earning her Juris Doctorate in South Carolina, she volunteered as a Guardian ad Litem, advocating for the best interest of minors and their families in Richland County. Currently, Danielle serves as a family advocate in Limestone, Madison, and Morgan Counties. Her background of serving underserved communities and passion for the wellbeing of children and their families drive her work most. In her downtime, she enjoys visits with family, leisure bicycle rides, swimming, and other outdoor activities.
Hannah Coulter
Hannah, NXTSTEP Family Law’s Office Manager, holds dual Degrees in Paralegal Studies and Accounting. Since 2012, she’s been a dedicated team member, initially as a paralegal focused on family law and juvenile matters alongside Kris. Promoted to Office Manager in 2022, she resides in Madison County with her husband, Marc, daughter, Ava, cat, Maddie, and dog, Millie. In her free time, she enjoys family time and reading.
Brigitte Sexton
Brigitte, NXTSTEP Family Law’s seasoned Account Manager and former Office Manager, boasts over 25 years of expertise. She excels in full cycle accounting, payroll, office management, collections, troubleshooting, and Human Resources. Proficient in Quickbooks, Deltek, Great Plains, Peachtree, Intuit, ADP, and Paychex, she’s a certified professional. With an unwavering commitment to family, she prioritizes their well-being above all else. In her leisure moments, she relishes gatherings with loved ones, cherishing every opportunity for connection and joy.
Kennedy Culbreath
Kennedy graduated from Longwood University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in BA. Prior to working at NXTSTEP she was a 211 Call Specialist at Crisis Services of North Alabama. She assisted the Northern Alabama community with referrals and information on various resources. She enjoys playing soccer being a former collegiate athlete. On the weekends she enjoys being at the gym and spending time with her family and dogs. She also enjoys binge watching a show or movies.
Cheryl Weimer
Cheryl Weimer brings five years of experience in family law to the table. She studied Exercise Science at the University of South Alabama. Outside of work, Cheryl spends time with her husband and two boys on the boat, playing board games, and playing pool. She is also the proud mother of two out of our six Law Dogs, Teddy and Graham.
Heather Hoffman
Heather is the paralegal for Kristina Sexton and Danielle Cassells. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education/Language Arts and a minor in English from Samford University (2003). She is an active member of the Alabama Association of Paralegals, Inc., having served on the State Board. Heather has been a paralegal for more than 17 years and has spent the last 6 years in Family Law. Her family is her life. She is married and has three kids. Heather also gets to spend time with her mom, who lives with her. Heather has 4 cats, one of which (Scarlet) regularly comes to the office to supervise the Law Dogs and make sure they’re doing their jobs correctly.
Katie Carroll
Katie is the paralegal for Kristina Sexton. She graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a minor in Political Science in 2020 and has a Paralegal Studies Certification from Boston University. While she considers Alabama her home now, she grew up all over the world while her father was serving in the U.S. Army and continues to travel and experience as much of the world as possible. She loves her dog, Thor, a Newfoundland mix, who loves to play fetch and hates owls. Her favorite things are reading, being outdoors, fall, dirt chai tea lattes, football, live music, cheese, and elephants.
Doug Lange
Doug has worked in Huntsville’s legal community since 2006. As Nora’s paralegal, Doug can be found drafting legal instruments whilst drinking coffee in his office. He resides in Madison County with his fiancé, Jennifer, and their cat, Beaux.
Patricia Taylor
Originally from Virginia, Tricia moved to Decatur during high school, then attended Calhoun Community College and the University of South Alabama, where she studied English. Passionate about the arts, she contributed to theater productions and even painted a mural at the Huntsville Public Library. Tricia’s altruistic nature shines through her volunteer work at her daughter’s school and in disaster relief efforts. Caregiving for loved ones underscores her compassionate spirit. With two beautiful daughters at her core, she finds joy in nature and remains dedicated to making a positive impact both personally and professionally.
